This summer the Birthplace of Country Music Museum is offering a Teacher In-Service Program in partnership with the Tennessee State Museum. The workshops will focus on the Birthplace of Country Music Museum's lesson plans, educational resources, classroom activities, and field trip opportunities AND the Tennessee State Museum's resources, activities, and lessons for teaching students about the Reconstruction Era (while this is a Tennessee-focused museum, the materials TSM shares will also be helpful and appropriate to Virginia educators).
This year marks the 95th anniversary of the 1927 Bristol Sessions. In honor of that occasion, we are excited that Ralph Peer II, the son of Ralph S. Peer, the Victor producer at those historic recordings, will be with us via Zoom to talk about his father's career, the legacy and impact of the 1927 Bristol Sessions, and the music industry.
The Birthplace of Country Music Museum in partnership with the East Tennessee Bluegrass Association is hosting a monthly gathering of local musicians for a bluegrass jam session!
"Hillbilly" is a timely and urgent exploration of how we see and think about poverty and rural identity in contemporary America, offering a call for dialogue during this divisive time in U.S. history.
